The Army Corps of Engineers was created in Spain by Felipe V following the French model. The statutes of the body were approved in 1711. In 1843 the country was divided in various Engineering Command, responsible for implementing projects of fortifications and military buildings. Until 1889 the Director General of the entire body acted with autonomy from the other weapons, and from that date, the military engineers are integrated into the overall structure of the Army. Until 1925, each of the eight there was a general Captaincy General Command of Engineers, which depended on the various special Commandery. The headquarters of Catalonia included those of Barcelona, ​​Girona, Lleida and Tarragona.
