The Ravetllat-Pla Institute was created to study the etiopathogeny of tuberculosis and to develop two anti-tuberculosis products: the Haemo-antitoxin and the Ravetllat-Pla serum. Its founders were veterinarian Joaquim Ravetllat i Estech (1871-1923) and doctor Ramon Pla i Armengol (1880-1958). The institute was not only a research and experiment laboratory; rather when the official institutions refused Ramon Pla’s offer to grant them the rights to manufacture the products it then also became a private enterprise where both vaccines were manufactured and commercialised.
