Antoni Lloret i Orriols (Barcelona, 1935). Phisicist
He studied at the University of Barcelona, where he graduated in 1963, and the University of Paris, where it did in 1964. He was director of research at the Centre de la Recherche Scientifique and researcher at the Ecole Polytechnique in Palaiseau (France). He also worked at the JEN (Madrid), CEN (Strasbourg) and CERN (Geneva). He published numerous papers in international journals on nuclear physics of high energy physics of plasmas, and synthesis of new semiconductors. Among them stand the discovery of the particle g ° and the first detection of a global radical by the plasma trapped in a solid argon matrix. He is the author of several books published in Catalan: Physics Pop (1977), Dictionary of Nuclear Science and Technology (1979, from the French and English versions 1964 and 1968), Why things are (1981) and the novel Café Metropol (1999), historical fiction from which to make a foray into the philosophy of science. In 1979 was commissioned by the President of the Generalitat and the Executive Board to report on the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island (Harrisburg, USA). In 2008 he received the Cross of St. George.
