Contains some of the documentation generated by the shipping company founded by Antonio Lopez, Marques de Comillas, named Antonio Lopez & Co. and its successor, the Spanish Transatlantic Company, SA, founded in 1881. The company reached a major role in transporting troops to the West Indian colonies of Cuba and Puerto Rico and to the Philippines, first during the colonial wars (1860-1898) and then with the repatriation of soldiers . In the early twentieth century emphasized the passenger migrants, but from the 30's began its decline when he had to compete with air travel. In 1978 it was nationalized by the National Institute of Industry and, after a privatization process, was incorporated as the Spanish Transatlantic Company Odiel Group, based in Madrid.
