In the late 20th century, due to the city’s growth and advancements in medicine, the hospital was moved to the Eixample district. Thanks to the bequest of Pau Gil, construction got underway in 1902, and its name was changed to the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. The architect charged with the design was Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The hospital has undergone constant evolution until the creation of a totally new area opened in 2010.
