Ramon Turró i Darder, (Girona, 1854 – Barcelona, 1926). A biologist and philosopher, he worked particularly in the fields of bacteriology, physiology and immunology. In 1884 he entered the Municipal Microbiology Laboratory, run by Jaume Ferran i Clúa. In 1906 he was appointed director of the Microbiology Laboratory, and from 1908 to 1910 he was the President of the Academy and Laboratory. He was a founding member and President of the Biology Society of Barcelona and the Catalan Philosophy Society. He introduced Claude Bernard’s experimental method to Spain and was the first person in Catalonia to study internal secretions.
